Everyone around the U.S. and world knows what ‘The Wall’ is. We’ve seen it constantly on our social media streams, in the news, and as a trending topic within our social circles. It was one of Donald Trumps key points of his campaign and what helped him win the presidential election. When asked about his strategy for immigration from Mexico, he firmly and proudly stood by his wall – stating it was gonna be ‘great’ and that Mexico would pay for it. This was a common theme throughout his campaign.
What we forget is that this country was made on immigrants. This was the country to come to pursue our dreams. Without immigration, America would not be the country it is today. Every single U.S. citizen can be traced back to immigrants.
There’s something more to this wall than meets the mainstream media eye – it represents something. It represents division. Division in humanity and races. It reveals the division in ethnicity and the fact that racial supremacy is still alive and well. Have we not learned from our past history that division only leads to destruction? That it only results in prejudice and closed mindedness. We can’t let ourselves go back in time, back in progress. We must not divide ourselves and continue to treat the so-called ‘minorities’ as outcasts. It’s time for change – for unity. Break free from these racial boxes and look at each other as exactly as they are, humans. These labels only blind us from each other.
